January 2026 Update

We faced major challenges as the New Year started. The reason for this was a whole set of factors during January. The horrors of war and long blackouts compounded the unpredictable weather. Heavy snowfall and extreme cold created transportation failures and other complications. Brief thaws followed by severe frosts turned the ground into ice, making it feel like a skating rink everywhere. These conditions greatly slowed our ministry activities. To avoid a prolonged halt, we acted swiftly to clear our area, which demanded significant time and effort. At one point, I found myself having dreams about a snow shovel late into the night. Yet, the joy of seeing children play on the snow piles I had made during the week brought a sense of compensation, especially on Sundays after our meetings. Ultimately, thank God, these obstacles slowed us but did not stop us. Throughout January, we continued serving people with the Word of God, through our work, and with His love.

Almost 100 families received assistance from us in January, including food, hygiene products, medicines, clothing, shoes, and other necessities. This support extended to several families with people with disabilities, to whom we delivered holiday food kits at the start of January. We did this at the request of our sister Natalia, whose daughter Lida is a cheerful girl with Down syndrome. Both are our sisters in Christ. Natalia has been supporting such families for years, organizing various leisure and development activities for them and even founding a public organization, “Go Outside.” Occasionally, we assist her with this vital work.

In addition, 20 families with small children received necessary care kits for their babies.

We also maintain ongoing contact and support for the family of Sasha, a wounded soldier. Winter has been particularly hard on Sasha physically, with frequent headaches and fatigue. However, I have noticed fewer emotional highs and lows recently. During our visits over the past few months, Sasha has responded positively, enjoyed communication, and welcomed guests despite his health struggles. We continue to pray for him and his family.

At the end of the month, most of our community traveled to the Carpathians for a winter seminar themed “Resilience in Christ.” This theme is extremely timely because it is what helps us persevere, not give up, and continue fighting during these challenging times. Olya and I did not attend the seminar, but we enjoyed a special blessing: a visit from Jeff Abrams, who is an inspiring example of resilience in Christ. Many of you know Jeff for his love for Ukraine and his extensive support for those in need. During less than two weeks in January, Jeff visited 16 Church of Christ communities, and we were the 14th on his list. Despite his busy schedule, he remained cheerful, energetic, and eager to serve. On Saturday, January 31, we hosted a meeting with Jeff in our church building for those not at the seminar and many guests, especially displaced people. He shared encouraging words and life stories, followed by fellowship over delicious pizzas. We received our own dose of encouragement to remain steadfast in Christ.

Continuing the theme of steadfastness, I want to especially mention all of you. Your ongoing motivation and encouragement help us stay strong and endure through the challenges of these difficult times. Your love and care keep us hopeful for the future.
